GTS Open House Recap
The 6th Annual GTS Open House soared to new heights this year as everyone outdid themselves.
A huge thanks goes to the GTS team, first and foremost, for a stellar day of fun, connecting and learning together. The entire staff worked their magic yet again, creating a special event for all of our sales partners and carrier partners. Let’s give a hearty thanks to each one of them: Bob Chernock, Nicole(Nikki) Seymour, Samantha (Sam) Dervic, Monica Kopp, Lisa Hall, Dan Koluch, Kat Thomas, Josh Kahl, Jamie Boedeker, Sue Washington and Brian Marody.
Just as important, a major thanks to our many wonderful carriers who attended the Open House. Their support year after year has allowed us to keep growing, making the event even better for everyone involved.
This year we experienced still greater participation during the event, with nearly 200 people enjoying the Open House (and escaping the blazing summer heat outside). There were 27 outstanding exhibitors, and everyone was refreshed with a great spread of food, free chair massages and a “bingo” game with raffle prizes for some of those who competed.
Our Keynote Expert Forum this year focused on UCaaS, one of the hottest products in the Indirect Channel in 2019, and it was one of the best discussions we’ve had. More on that later.
During the entire event we asked attendees to use some excellent new hashtags, so watch for more info via social media as well as releases on the event and speaker panel. Don’t forget those hashtags:

Networking, Eating and Drinking
It was wonderful to see all of the networking around our 27 exhibitor tables and in the refreshment areas, where everyone tasted a variety of food and drink (and a bar provided by our friends at Liquid Entertainment). There were plenty of sandwiches, pizza, salads and much more for everyone to partake. Clearly, it was an excellent chance to chat, eat some good food and get to know one another.
2019 Award Winners
Each year our award winners are selected by the GTS team as well as a number of select/key producing sales partners. We are always excited and proud to honor them.
Channel Manager of the Year — Heather Garey of 123.Net. Our runner up this year was Todd Dalson
Emerging Star Award — This year there was a tie between Travis Waye of CallHarbor and Ryan Williams of CloudGenix. Well done, gentlemen.
Outstanding Service Provider — 123.Net again took home top honors, holding onto their win from last year. CallHarbor was the runner up.
Outstanding Sales Partner — 2019 Sales Partner of the Year goes to the team at Proactive Management. Led by Mac Nutter and Michael Weinberger in management, the award was presented to Sean Cowell and Josh Drost on behalf of the 40+ techs/consultants now over at Proactive.
Door Prizes and Giveaways
This year everyone had a chance to win a drone, Amazon gift cards (including one for $500), some fine wine and several other cool door prizes. There were also plenty of fun little table giveaways at all of the exhibit tables and a chance to fill up a goodie bag. Thank you to everyone who donated prizes.
Expert Panel / Forum
The sizzling topic this year is UCaaS, one of the hottest products in the Indirect Channel in 2019, and all of our four expert panelists shared their experiences with this product, other products and their companies. Our speakers included Clayton Banka from Bullseye, Jeff Ducharme from Vonage and Patrick Marsala from 8×8. Sean Johnson from Mitel joined the group in place of his colleague Jim McGarry, who was stuck in Chicago due to a storm.
In addition to the fine panelists, GTS has a full stable of proven, reliable UCaaS providers that can cater to customers ranging from one to 1,000 seats. There may be some verticals that fit better than others but when it comes to company size, there are truly no limitations in this area.
This year GTS donated $2,500 to the Covenant House Michigan, a strong community partner based right near GTS in Detroit’s Corktown. Covenant House Executive Director Gerry Piro was on hand to accept the check and give us some insight into his important organization.
More than 100 people enjoyed a lovely evening in the beautiful main banquet room of the Detroit Athletic Club, sipping on complimentary cocktails and wine, enjoying satays, shrimp and a wonderful spread of great food along with the musical stylings of The Dan Tillery Duo. There’s no better way to wrap up a busy Open House then with a little down time at the DAC.
First Annual Golf Outing
Instead of fishing this year, more than 8 groups comprised of 32 partners and carrier partners took the links for a fun round of golf on Friday afternoon. We certainly braved the heat that day while taking our best shots at the Dearborn Country Club.
While the format turned more casual since a few groups decided to scramble instead, we would be remiss not to mention a few of the top scores: Mark Stackpoole (GTS) fared well with an 83, Chuck Woolaver played excellent and fired a 74! Normally, that would take top honors…but we had a superhuman brave the heat and fire an amazing (personal record) round of 69! Congratulations to Brendan Kelly of Perennial Communications, it was amazing to hear about and we hope you join us again next year — unless the PGA comes calling!
